Sarah Alness Olson, MS
I believe that therapy can help individuals find support in the face of unique stressors, build meaningful connections inside and outside of the therapy room, and take empowered action in their lives. I am grateful to have the opportunity to work with individuals, couples, and families in this meaningful process. When working with me, you can expect to find a therapist committed to compassion, collaboration, and openness, who seeks to use the therapeutic relationship itself to create change. I also am passionate about integrating societal and environmental factors relating to identity and culture into the work of therapy, with an eye to the ways that oppression and marginalization interact with and affect mental health. I tend to apply psychodynamic, interpersonal, client-centered, and emotion-focused theoretical frames in my work with clients.
I am currently in my fourth year of the Clinical Psychology Doctoral program at Loyola University Maryland. Previously, I received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and Music with a minor in Spanish from Concordia College. I gained experience as a Mental Health Technician at The Emily Program, working within a residential site for adolescents and young adults with eating disorders. In Loyola's Psy.D. program, I have spent two years training at the Loyola Clinical Centers, followed by a year providing individual and group psychotherapy services at an inpatient hospital in D.C., the Psychiatric Institute of Washington. I am also currently receiving training at Spring Grove Hospital Center, providing psychological services on an adolescent inpatient unit. Through these experiences I have worked with adults and adolescents seeking treatment for issues related to interpersonal relationships, self-esteem and self-compassion, identity, depression, anxiety, trauma, body image and eating disorders, and other various difficulties.
I am a registered psychology associate in Maryland under the supervision of Jon Gorman, PsyD, Licensed Psychologist.
I look forward to meeting you and embarking on this meaningful journey together!
