Lakeisha S. Keyes is a pre-licensed doctoral student pursuing a Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) in Clinical Psychology at Capella University. She is currently advancing through the final stages of her clinical training, with a focus on trauma-informed care, assessment, and evidence-based therapeutic interventions.
Lakeisha brings a diverse and impactful professional background. She began her career in the Department of Corrections, where she trained officers and civilian staff in critical incident stress management, crisis intervention, and working effectively with individuals experiencing mental illness. She later transitioned into community-based roles, serving as a coordinator for volunteers at a domestic violence and sexual assault center, and subsequently working within a State’s Attorney’s Office and a drug treatment facility. In these roles, she supported individuals impacted by domestic violence, sexual assault, substance use disorders, and human trafficking.
Her clinical work is grounded in a strong commitment to serving individuals with complex trauma, interpersonal and attachment-related challenges, and intergenerational trauma. She integrates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) with trauma-informed approaches and is actively expanding her clinical expertise in modalities such as Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), and other advanced trauma-focused interventions.
Her current doctoral research focuses on the lived experiences of parents advocating for children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and/or Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD), with an emphasis on advocacy-driven stress and resilience. Through this work, she is developing a broader platform to amplify caregiver voices and support underserved communities.
In addition to clinical practice, Lakeisha has experience designing and facilitating psychoeducational workshops, supervision trainings, and curriculum development for emerging clinicians. She is passionate about bridging research, clinical practice, and community advocacy.
Lakeisha believes therapy is a transformative process that allows individuals to unpack life challenges, develop insight, and cultivate self-compassion. She is dedicated to creating a safe, culturally responsive, and empowering therapeutic environment where clients can heal, grow, and live more fulfilled lives.
